Proposed Electric Motors As A Transportation Tool In Tourist Destinations, Coordinating Minister Luhut Prepares Pilot Projects In Bali To Borobudur

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, Luhut Bisar Pandjaitan, proposed to make a number of pilot projects for EV (electric vehicles) or electric vehicles in destination places in the country. He gave an example, Bali and Borobudur Temple, Central Java.

Luhut's statement appeared at the launch of the new appearance of Grab Indonesia's electric vehicle, namely Grab Electric, at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment Building, Jakarta, Tuesday 12 July.

"Earlier, I and the Minister of Transportation, Bahlil (Minister of Investment), Darmo (President Director of PLN Darmawan Prasodjo) we might propose to make several pilot projects, directly all EV motorcycles," said Luhut.

"I think it's good, we are trying to make a pilot project in Bali, in Borobudur, several tourist destinations, we will study later," he continued.

Luhut said the proposed electric motorcycle plan could be converted to a domestically made battery. So, in the next 2.5 years the plan can be realized.

"And it can be converted with domestically made electric batteries. In 2.5 years, if we can make it, that's great," he said.

On that occasion, Luhut said Indonesia must dare to make breakthroughs related to the development of electric-based vehicles. Moreover, Luhut said, the Indonesian economy was considered stable compared to other countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We must dare to make a breakthrough. So, so that Indonesia is great, it is we who want to make us great, now our country's economy is among the best in the world in conditions like this," he said.

Luhut also appreciated Grab's steps in presenting 8,500 electric vehicle fleets in the country. The majority of the fleet are electric motorcycles.

"I think Grab is playing a tremendous role, speaking of green energy and reducing carbon emissions," he said.
