JAKARTA - Qantas will launch the longest direct flight route with a duration of 19 hours in the air. The trip departed from Sydney to London in late 2025.
After five years of planning, the airline ordered 12 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft to operate on "Project Sunrise" flights to cities such as London and New York.
Non-stop flights will start from Sydney by the end of 2025, with Melbourne also on the list.
"New types of aircraft are making new things possible", said Qantas chief Alan Joyce, quoted from an official statement by AFP quoted from Antara.
"The A350 and Project Sunrise will make every city reachable in just one flight from Australia", he said.
So far, Singapore Airlines which operates the longest non-stop flight from Singapore to New York as far as 16,700 kilometers with a flight duration of 19 hours is a little less.
Qantas already operates the Perth-London route which lasts 17 hours with a distance of 14,498 kilometers.
Qantas says the plane's cabin is designed so that passengers can feel comfortable even if the flight lasts for a long time. The aircraft will be built for 238 passengers whereas first-class offers separate beds, recliner seats, and wardrobes.
The seats in economy class promise more space and there are zones designed for movement, stretching, and hydration.
