PUPR Minister Basuki Delivers Good News: Construction Of Ciawi Dry Dam In Bogor Helps Jakarta Flood Control

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono revealed the construction of the Ciawi Dry Dam in Bogor in order to increase Jakarta's flood control capacity.

The Minister of PUPR said that as a dry dam, the operation of the Ciawi Dam will be different from other dams, where the two dams will only be filled with water during the rainy season. While in the dry season the dam is dry.

"Both Ciawi and Sukamahi Dams are the first to be built in Indonesia. These two dams are not for irrigation or raw water purposes, but to increase flood control capacity," Basuki said in a written statement in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Tuesday, March 29.

In addition to the Sukamahi Dam, the Ministry of PUPR has also built the Ciawi Dry Dam in Bogor Regency, West Java as part of the master plan for a flood control system from upstream to downstream to reduce flood vulnerability in the Jakarta Metropolitan area.

Construction of the Ciawi Dam has started to be carried out in stages (MYC) since December 2016 with 100 percent physical progress completed in 2021. The Ciawi Dam has a capacity of 6.05 million cubic meters and an inundation area of 39.40 hectares with a construction cost of IDR 798.7 billion.

In the 2021 Fiscal Year (SYC) further work will be carried out with a contract value of IDR 239.8 billion to complete the final work on the dam building and public facilities with physical and financial progress being 100 percent completed. Currently, further work II is being carried out in the form of embankments with progress until February 16, 2022 reaching 80.2 percent. It is targeted that all construction works will be completed by 2022.

In addition, the PUPR Ministry also continues to coordinate with all relevant parties and strive to accelerate land acquisition, so that the completion of the Ciawi Dam is completed according to the target. Based on data, the progress of land acquisition has reached 98.83 percent with the target of completing the Compensation Money (UGR) in April 2022.

The procurement of dam land is carried out with a bailout scheme, in which the contractor finances it first and will later be paid through the State Asset Management Institute (LMAN). The Ciawi Dam work contract was signed on November 23, 2016 with the contractors PT Brantas Abipraya and PT Sacna.

This dam is designed to reduce the flood discharge that enters Jakarta by blocking the flow of water from Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango before reaching the Katulampa Dam which then flows into the Ciliwung River. The completion of the Ciawi Dam construction will reduce flooding by 111.75 cubic meters per second.
