JAKARTA - Former Deputy Chief of the Indonesian National Police (2011-2013) Nanan Soekarna officially serves as Chairman of the Indonesian Nickel Miners Association (APNI) for the period 2022 to 2027.
"We support educational programs about APNI and mining," he said in a statement quoted by Antara, Monday, March 7.
Nanan is committed to supporting various government policies and programs related to nickel. According to him, Indonesia is one of the world's largest nickel-producing countries which requires APNI to establish synergy with the government, stakeholders, and the community.
"We synergize to be able to support the government's program. The benefits of the state and the government are the umbrella, whether foreign investment, local, state profits take precedence," said Nanan.
Deputy for Investment Planning at the Investment Ministry, Nurul Ikhwan, hopes that the presence of APNI's new management can help encourage the development of the nickel mining business ecosystem to the nickel downstream industry.
"We hope that the presence of APNI can play a strategic role in connecting not only among APNI members, but between APNI and the government and APNI with business actors in the downstream sector of nickel," said Nurul.
He further said that if the downstream nickel industry cannot be established in Indonesia, the domestic demand for nickel mining products will become less attractive, while on the other hand the world will look for nickel.
APNI together with the government must build a balance to bring the nickel mining industry ecosystem and nickel downstream in Indonesia.
"We hope that APNI is pleased to convey the input of its members to the government, so that we get the correct input and dialogue on downstream efforts," said Nurul.
The inauguration of Nanan Soekarna as Chair of APNI 2022-2027 was held at the Novotel Hotel, Jakarta, Sunday 6 March. The inauguration procession was carried out by the Director of Mineral Business Development of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Sugeng Mujiyanto.
