JAKARTA - The chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, has asked the cooking oil company owned by the conglomerate Martua Sitorus, PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia (WINA) in Gresik Regency, East Java, to increase its production, to prevent panic buying in the community.
Puan, during her working visit to the Cooking oil producers Sania and Fortune located on Captain Darmo Sugondo street, Gresik Regency, Wednesday 2 March, immediately asked Wilmar about this, and why there was a shortage of cooking oil in the market.
The Business Unit Head of PT Wilmar Nabati Indonesia, Ridwan Brandes, said that currently many micro to medium-scale cooking oil producers are out of business, due to not being able to buy raw materials which have increased. This causes the national cooking oil production to fluctuate.
"To the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, we conveyed that currently there is still panic buying in the market so that as soon as oil arrives, it is immediately bought. This condition must be found a solution so that people do not buy oil in large quantities to be stored," he said, as quoted from Antara, Friday, March 4th.
Ridwan ensured that the production of cooking oil at PT Wilmar was still normal, and there was no turmoil.
"We told him that production is currently running normally. The Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives promised to give us full support," Ridwan said when met by reporters.
