JAKARTA - The Ministry of SOEs is currently still technically reviewing the plan to disband PLN Coal which is a subsidiary of PT PLN (Persero).

Special Staff to the Minister of SOEs Arya Sinulingga said the technical study was to calculate the assets owned by the company.

"We are currently reviewing technically for its dissolution because we need to calculate how many assets it has, then from there we will take steps to dissolve it," Arya said in a statement quoted by Antara, Friday, January 14.

Arya explained that the reason for the plan to disband PLN Batubara was for efficiency, because so far the coal purchased by PLN was sourced from its own subsidiary, PLN Batubara. This means that this subsidiary of PLN buys materials from coal producers, then resells them to PLN.

"It still doesn't want PLN Coal to take the margin as well, so we want efficiency to be carried out this way," said Arya.

"Later, the owners of coal will no longer use it directly for PLN in the midst of PLN Coal, this is our efficiency," he added.

Arya further revealed that the Ministry of SOEs has currently carried out a lot of efficiency through the dissolution of subsidiaries that hinder the parent's business processes.

On the other hand, the government also conducts audits to find out the games that have been going on in the bodies of BUMN subsidiaries.

"We'll just have to wait for sure we will always be transparent about it," said Arya.

Previously, Member of Commission VII DPR RI Muhammad Nasir suggested that PLN establish a mining production work unit to meet coal needs independently.

"We asked PLN to form a Mining Production Work Unit. PLN has its own mine to assist with the regulation, such as Bukit Asam," he said.

Nasir suggested that PLN is no longer a trader to get coal, but as a miner so that the company has a clear stock of coal for power generation.

As for the permits to control land and open mines, according to him, the state can ask for it because PLN is a state-owned company.

"(PLN) should not be a trader, but only as a miner in order to have a clear stock. Maybe if permission can be requested because of the state too," said the Democrat Party politician.
