JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim again made a controversial decision. He set a new rule, namely that Scout activities are no longer mandatory extracurricular in elementary to high school levels.

The regulation is contained in Permendikbusristek Number 12 of 2024 concerning the Curriculum of Early, Elementary, and Secondary Childhood Education. Precisely in Article 24 which reads "The participation of Students in Extracurricular is voluntary". This regulation was stipulated by the Minister of Education and Technology Nadiem Makarim in Jakarta on March 25, 2024 and took effect on the date of promulgation on March 26, 2024.
