Anti was teaching class II-B when the roof of the classroom began to collapse from the south side. He was surprised to see this incident, but Anti's survival instinct is stronger. He managed to save himself.

"Suddenly there was a sound like a tsunami. The collapse was running from the south," he was quoted as saying by Detikcom , Wednesday (6/11/2019).

Several eyewitnesses expressed the same shock. Most of them did not think that the roof could collapse. In the middle of the teaching and learning process too.

Budi Santoso, a school janitor described the outbreak of screams and cries when students and teachers rushed out of the classroom. Among them were crushed by collapsed material.

Ahmad Eksan, a local resident, revealed that at least 13 people were trapped in the rubble of the roof. "I helped earlier. There were about 13 who could not get out. Then they were helped," he explained.

Apart from Irza Almira (8), class IIA student and substitute teacher Sefina Arsi Wijaya (19), this disaster also left eleven students injured. Most of them were even traumatized.

Educating but not protecting

All agree. Education is the ideal of the nation that must be achieved. Whatever the obstacles, every child of the nation has the right to grow up with knowledge. But, how is it possible to put aside a sense of security in the teaching and learning process? Adequate and adequate facilities and infrastructure must be realized.

Article 45 of Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System has given a mandate. Each educational unit is obliged to provide facilities and infrastructure that meet educational needs according to the growth and development of the physical, intellectual, social, emotional, and psychological potential of students.

Educational facilities are media or material tools that play a role in teaching and learning activities directly, starting from furniture, such as chairs and tables. Or educational equipment in the form of props, to educational media, blackboards

Meanwhile, educational infrastructure plays an indirect role in teaching and learning activities, such as classrooms and libraries (Permendiknas Number 24 of 2007). No negotiations. Fulfilling adequate educational facilities and infrastructure is an important asset to improve the quality of education.

The records of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in 2018 describe the number of primary schools reaching 148,244. If broken down, it can be seen that the number of public elementary schools has decreased by 48 schools compared to the previous school year. On the other hand, the number of SD managed privately has increased by 789 schools.

In 2017, the number of public elementary schools was 132,022, while in 2018 there were 131,974 units. Meanwhile, the number of private primary schools has increased, from 15,481 units in 2017 to 16,270 units in the following year.

The reduction in the number of public primary schools was driven by the policy of merging public primary schools or regrouping . The policy was made to overcome the problem of a lack of teaching staff or the lack of student absorption.

In fact, this also relates to the condition and adequacy of classrooms at the SD level. In the midst of efforts to boost the quality of education, in fact there are still many classrooms in damaged condition.

In the data, three levels of damage were classified, ranging from mild, moderate to severe. Although there were improvements in the 2017/2018 school year, the percentage of damaged and severely damaged classrooms was still above 50 percent.

In 2018, the condition of slightly or moderately damaged classrooms was recorded at 63.59 percent of the total number of SDs. Meanwhile, the total number of severely damaged elementary schools reached ten percent.

This means that only 26.41 percent of SD were recorded in good condition. In this way, are we still putting aside a sense of security in the realization of educational ideals?
