JAKARTA UI Student Accident case Muhammad Hasya Atallah is in the public spotlight. There are at least three things that make this case viral. The first is the involvement of retired Police, AKBP Eko Setio Budi Wahono.

The accident occurred on Srengseng Sawah Street, South Jakarta on October 6, 2022. When Hasya could not control her motorcycle and fell to the right, at the same time an SUV driven by Eko passed from the opposite direction and ran over the victim to death.

According to the attorney for the victim's family, Gita Paulina, previously Eko had stopped but refused to take the UI student to the hospital.

The two suspects named Hasya because they were considered negligent in driving, even though this UI student was the victim who died in the accident. Instead of getting a bright spot, the police on January 16, 2023 actually closed the Hasya case.

According to Gita, the police consider the case to have expired, there is not enough evidence, and the suspect is dead. Many people have questioned why the victims of the traffic accident who had died became suspects.

Third, related to the credibility of the National Police. Public trust in the National Police institution is indeed decreasing drastically after a series of cases in 2022, starting from the Ferdy Sambo case, the Kanjuruhan tragedy, and drug cases involving high-ranking police officers.

The public is still waiting to see if the police can remain professional in overcoming criminal cases involving its members.

The case of the UI student accident, according to Netray's monitoring during the period January 24, 2023, to February 1, 2023, became a hot topic of news.

There are 924 articles with keywords for UI students, police, and accidents published by 90 domestic online media channels. The majority or as many as 693 articles fall into the category of legal news.

The news was observed to start to increase dramatically on January 27, 2023, from only 7 articles to 195 articles. In fact, it continues to increase to 100 articles per day at the end of the monitoring period," Netray wrote in its report on February 3, 2023.

Online mass media is often observed to emphasize the word suspect" in the news. No wonder the news of this topic is indexed the most in the legal category.

The accident case with the victim of UI students was observed to be dominated by news with negative sentiment. Of the 924 articles that have been published, at least 787 news titles were found written with negative sentiment. This figure is far above the news with positive sentiment that Netray recorded only 59 articles," explained Netray.

Not only online media coverage, Netray Media Monitoring also monitors Twitter activists' conversations to see how the public responds to the case.

Netray found 3,085 tweets using the same keywords and periods as online mass media monitoring.

The discussion on the topic of accidents of UI students managed to reap an impression of 1.4 million times in the form of reply, retweets, and favorites. The reach of this conversation can potentially be accepted by 104.1 million Indonesian-language Twitter accounts.

"The highest position on the Top Accounts list occupied by a number of official accounts belonging to the mass media with massive followers is very likely to boost the total potential reach even if the number of tweets is insignificant," wrote Netray.

A total of 1,297 negative tweets. Only 294 tweets were indexed with positive tendencies. The rest is tweets with neutral sentiment because of the dominance of tweets from the mass media accounts.

One of the views of Twitter activists who often appear is to question the status of the suspect given to Hasya. Like from the @KecilSenja account which compared the case of the UI student accident with the accident case that put the truck driver as a suspect even though it was clear that the accident was the victim's negligence.

Twitter activists are also observed to often use the words 'purnawirawan' and'reunion'.

"Apart from being an alleged way of entering, why this case is difficult to uncover, because it involves retired police officers, this word is also to distinguish this case from other accidents. Namely the accident that happened to a student in Cianjur which was also viral in the same period," wrote Netray closing his report.

The police have reconstructed the case of the UI student accident on February 2. The reconstruction involved the internal team of the Polda Metro Jaya and Korlantas Polri, as well as an external team from Kompolnas, and transportation experts.

From the results of Eko's reconstruction, it is known that he had moved the victim to the side of the road and called an ambulance. Agus Rayadi (34), an eye witness who works as an online motorcycle taxi, also convinced Eko to join him in the hospital.

"I took care of the file, I also signed at the hospital. Mr. Eko is still there, I had a chance to order coffee to calm down," said Agus.

Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Fadil Imran has issued an order to re-investigate the UI student case, "So that it is handled objectively, professionally, and involves related experts."
