Skip YouTube Rewind 2020 To Be Better In 2021

JAKARTA - YouTube made a big decision by eliminating their annual video, Rewind in 2020. That decision was taken, given the COVID-19 pandemic that is sweeping around the world.

This is the first time this has been done since the YouTube Rewind video tradition began in 2010. Where Rewind is a compilation video of each of the most phenomenal creators' content and is based on YouTube Trend.

The aim, of course, is to highlight the important events of the year. Showcasing some of pop culture, down to the most popular celebrities of the day, Rewind videos are a tribute to content creators as well as loyal YouTube viewers.

The first YouTube Rewind video aired on December 13, 2010. The content of the video is as mentioned above, which tells the countdown of the best videos of the year, categorized by YouTube itself.

Successfully presenting a video compilation in a year, YouTube Rewind again in 2011. This time for the first time, YouTube presented Rebecca Black as the host and named her annual event "YouTube Rewind".

It continues and it's a tradition for YouTube to make a summary of all the important things that have happened over the past year. But YouTube Rewind videos don't always get a good response.

Just take a look at the YouTube Rewind video of the last two years. In the 2018 YouTube Rewind video, it received 18 million dislikes, compared to 2.9 million likes and is one of the least liked videos on YouTube.

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki even had to apologize for making content that viewers didn't like. Where many fans and content creators criticized him for not accurately portraying YouTube's popular culture at the time.

"We hear you don't show the important moments of the year accurately, nor do you reflect the YouTube you know. We'd be better off to tell our story in 2019," Wojcicki wrote in his blog post, as quoted by The Verge.

But unfortunately, YouTube is again not producing good results with its Rewind video content. YouTube Rewind 2019, which was uploaded on December 6, 2019, only displays the top list of videos that have been uploaded based on data from November 1, 2019.

Again, YouTube Rewind videos get negative reviews. Although not as bad as the previous year, the video has been viewed more than 108 million times and is liked by 3.4 million netizens. However, they still received 9.2 million dislike.

Interestingly, in the moment of YouTube Rewind 2019, the name Youtuber Atta Halilintar was included in the list of creator content that broke the record in 2019. Atta is said to have broken the record as the first content creator from Indonesia to reach 20 million subscribers.

As if it was a unique tradition, Indonesian YouTubers also created their version of the Rewind video content. Youtube Rewind Indonesia 2014, was first uploaded by Eka Gustiwana on December 26, 2014.

The 2-minute 49-second video contains mash up of music to the most popular funny sketches on the social media network. Youtubers such as Tara Arts Game, Eka Gustiwana, Edho Zell, Andovi & Jovial Da Lopez, Nadya Rafika, Duo Harbatah, and many others appeared on YouTube Rewind 2014.

The debut of YouTube Rewind Indonesia 2014 received a positive response, and has been watched more than 4.6 million times since its broadcast. YouTube Rewind Indonesia's content continues into the following year, inviting more Indonesian YouTubers and the themes to be raised

But unfortunately, not all YouTube Rewind Indonesia content has received a positive response. YouTubers in the country did not create and upload YouTube Rewind content in 2017 and only continued in 2018.

It's just that the YouTube Rewind Indonesia video content in 2018 is less attractive. Even so, the video uploaded on December 14 2018 has actually been watched more than 13 million times.

It is undeniable that YouTube Rewind content is always awaited by netizens every year. Where both YouTube and content creators will present a compilation of popular events that occur throughout the year, in a creative and interesting way.

It's just that it needs to be understood, otherwise every moment will be included in YouTube Rewind. In 2020, YouTube has decided to eliminate its annual Rewind video.

In its official statement, YouTube acknowledges that 2020 has gone very differently. 2020 is bad enough considering that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on the world community.

"We know that many of the good things that happened in 2020 were created by all of you. You have found ways to encourage each other, help others, and make them laugh. You made a really difficult year better," reads a YouTube statement.

Even so, YouTube did not say whether the Rewind event would be held again in 2021. They only thanked content creators who faithfully accompanied users of the video platform to activities while at home.
