JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) admits it is investigating allegations of corruption related to the construction of toilets in a number of schools in Bekasi Regency, West Java, which cost up to Rp96.8 billion. This investigation was carried out because of the large number of public reports submitted to the anti-corruption commission.

"There are reports from the public as submitted to us and we have issued an investigation letter for verification and clarification of those who are suspected of knowing," said KPK Deputy Chair Alexander Marwata to reporters quoted on Wednesday, October 27.

With the letter, the KPK will summon a number of parties.

"We invite parties who are suspected of knowing to be questioned, to be clarified," said Alexander.

Furthermore, he also emphasized that until now no suspects have been named by his institution. According to Alexander, the determination of the suspect cannot be done arbitrarily and requires sufficient evidence from the deputy for prosecution.

"As long as there is no strong enough evidence, it has not been exposed," he said.

"Later, when there is enough evidence in the deputy for prosecution and internally exposed first, which involves investigators, investigators, prosecutors, and (if, red) it is determined that enough new evidence is presented to the leadership to explain what findings can be the basis for appointing someone as suspect," added Alexander.

For information, the construction of toilets in elementary schools (SD) or junior high schools (SMP) in Bekasi Regency had become a public spotlight. The reason is that the project budget reached Rp96.8 billion for 488 toilets.
