Arief Puyuono: Jokowi-Prabowo Duet Will Lose Even Against An Empty Box

JAKARTA - The former deputy chairman of the Gerindra Party, Arief Poyuono, has openly supported the scenario of a presidential term of more than 2 terms. Indirectly, he wants Joko Widodo to become president again in the third term.

But uniquely, Arief did not agree if Jokowi had a duet with the Minister of Defense who is also the General Chair of Gerindra, Prabowo Subianto. Even if the 1945 Constitution will be amended and the president may serve 3 terms.

This is in line with the support of volunteers who some time ago declared the Jokowi-Prabowo National Secretariat (Seknas Jokpro) 2024.

According to Arief, the Jokowi-Prabowo duo will surely lose despite the single nomination of the presidential and vice-presidential candidates in the 2024 presidential election. "It is certain that they will lose. Even if the opponent is an empty box", Arief said, Monday, June 21.

Even Arief asserted that he would not join the Jokpro 2024 National Secretariat which was spearheaded by the Executive Director of Indo Barometer, Muhammad Qodari.

"Oops, I'm not. I'm not going to join the Jokpro community. That's the community that owns the Indo Barometer who is campaigning for Jokowi-Prabowo. If it were me, I wouldn't want to join Jok-Pro, right", he said.

Nevertheless, Arief claimed, the Jokowi-Prabowo community must be driven by a group that agrees with his thinking about a three-term term.

"What is certain is that my idea is for the future of a more sustainable political system and government for the country", he claimed.

Arief explained that the three-term term of office does not only provide opportunities for Joko Widodo, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), or M. Jusuf Kalla, to be able to run for the 2024 presidential election. But, he said, it can be for all children of the nation who want to run for president.

"Later on, if there are figures who are still worthy to lead when they have served 2 terms, they can lead again", said Arief Poyuono.
