Development of Integrated Post to Acceleration of Rehabilitation-Reconstruction, Government Strengthens Synergy for Post-Earthquake Handling of NTT

JAKARTA - The government has emphasized rapid and integrated steps in handling the post-earthquake disaster that hit several areas in East Nusa Tenggara Province (NTT). The steps include the establishment of an integrated disaster post in the affected areas to accelerate the rehabilitation and reconstruction of key infrastructure.

This was conveyed by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) Pratikno in his statement to the media after holding a coordination meeting to handle the emergency after the earthquake on Sunday, August 16, 2026, at the West Manggarai Regent's Office, NTT.

"It has been conveyed, this will be immediately formed a post. In this second day, a post has been formed, the central government has a post, a national post. Later, the Head of BNPB will convey that logistical assistance from Jakarta, from other regions will be consolidated later at Halim, sent here," explained Minister Pratikno.

According to the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, in the emergency response phase, the government prioritizes the rescue and recovery of residents and affected areas. The government will also immediately restore the main infrastructure so that it can return to functioning in the shortest possible time.

"In this emergency response phase, the main thing is of course to save the affected residents, then restore the damaged infrastructure so that it is immediately functional, whether it is roads, bridges, hospitals, electricity, then also the internet network and others, it recovers in the shortest possible time," he said.

Furthermore, Minister Pratikno said that the government was also committed to sustainable recovery through the reconstruction of affected areas. In addition, Minister Pratikno said that the government would strengthen the resilience of local governments and communities in the face of disasters.

"We cannot completely avoid disasters, but we must build a strong local government, a strong community, a strong infrastructure, and a strong community in the face of disasters," he said.

On this occasion, Minister Pratikno emphasized that the rapid and integrated steps taken by the government were a tangible manifestation of the state's presence in the community, especially in the face of disaster situations. According to him, the synergy and synchronization of all levels of government are important to ensure that the recovery process runs quickly and properly.

"This central government is really a full team here. Come here. Each one asks what the problem is and what has been done, what will be done, and so on. So, this synchronization is very important because the central resources for emergency response and rehabilitation are very large," he said.

Minister Pratikno also expressed his deep condolences to the victims of the disaster. He also invited all levels of society to continue to synergize with the government in accelerating emergency response and supporting the post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction process.

"We express our deepest condolences to the victims, and ask all levels of society to continue to synergize with local governments, central governments, immediately take quick action in emergency response and support rehabilitation as soon as possible," he concluded.
