2 Suspects in Religious Blasphemy Challenge of Quran Memorization Detained at Polda Metro

The man with the initials E, a suspect in blasphemy of the Quran memorization challenge with a reward of liquor, was taken by the police to the Metro Jaya Police detention house/ANTARA/Ilham Kausar.

Two suspects in the case of alleged blasphemy of the Quran memorization challenge with liquor prizes (miras) during the "The Sounds Project" Music Festival in the Ancol area, North Jakarta, on Sunday (9/8), were detained at the Polda Metro Jaya.

Reported by ANTARA, the two suspected perpetrators of religious blasphemy wore prison clothes and both hands were handcuffed.

The two suspected perpetrators of religious blasphemy, namely a man with the initials E and a woman with the initials R, walked out of the room of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation with tight security by officers and immediately went to the Metro Jaya Police detention house without making any statements.

This case was handled by the police after a video went viral on the social media X through the @Jakartatalk account which showed the event of a challenge for visitors to memorize the Quran with a reward of liquor at a liquor booth.

In the video uploaded, the visitor read one of the verses from the holy book of the Quran.

After reaping controversy, the organizers apologized and said the challenge was outside the direction or approval of the organizers.
