Police Arrest a Group of Internet Network Sabotage Perpetrators in Pademangan: Motive for Business Competition

JAKARTA - The Pademangan Police Criminal Investigation Unit has uncovered sabotage of the internet network that harms the wider community on Jalan Pademangan Timur, RT015/010, Kelurahan Pademangan Timur, Kecamatan Pademangan, North Jakarta.

The perpetrators who were arrested were AS (22), NN (24), MR (23) and SM (23). Meanwhile, the other two perpetrators with the initials B and BR are still DPO.

"The motive is unhealthy business competition and economic factors," said the Head of the Pademangan Police Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Doly Septian, when confirmed, Sunday, August 9, 2026.

From the results of the examination of the perpetrators, their modus operandi began with an order from someone to damage the optical cable of the PT TKP internet network so that the internet connection would experience interference.

"Perpetrator B (DPO) asked MR to find people to damage the optical cable owned by PT TKP in exchange for Rp1 million," he said.

Furthermore, the perpetrator with the initials MR contacted BR (DPO) to find people to damage the optical cable belonging to PT TKP in exchange for Rp. 700,000.

"Then the perpetrator in initials BR (DPO) ordered the other perpetrators in initials AS, NN and SM to damage the optical cables belonging to PT TKP in exchange for Rp. 150,000 per person," he said.

The perpetrators with initials AS, NN and SM then together damaged the cable belonging to PT TKP using tang so that it caused telecommunications disruption.

The victim also felt harmed and reported the incident to the Pademangan Police.

"After receiving information from the victim, we moved quickly to check the Tkp and managed to secure AS, NN and SM. The three of them admitted that they were ordered by the initials BR and MR," he said.

After arresting the three perpetrators, the police again carried out development and managed to arrest another perpetrator with the initials MR. MR admitted that he was only ordered by B.

"Currently, the four perpetrators have been secured to the Pademangan Police. Meanwhile, the other two perpetrators are still being pursued," he said.

The impact of the perpetrators' actions is that the community experiences internet network disruption which makes work activities, the economy and the need for information disrupted.

"The main impact depends on the digital sector. In addition, the impact can also weaken public confidence in internet service services," he said.

The police seized evidence of a 7-meter long black optical cable, a 25-meter long black optical cable, a green-black cutting pliers and a silver ladder.

For their actions, the perpetrators were charged with Article 38 of Law No. 36 of 1999 concerning Communication jo Article 55 and or Article 262 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code jo Article 20 letters b, c, d of the Subsider 521 Criminal Code paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code with a maximum prison sentence of 6 years.
