GRESIK - Coordinating Minister for People's Empowerment Muhaimin Iskandar said that the Special Economic Social Area for Pesantren (KSEKP) can be a motor for poverty alleviation through the strengthening of the pesantren economy which is integrated with community empowerment.
"Currently, pesantren has developed not only as a center of education, but also as a space for economic activity, job creation, and community empowerment," he said when visiting the Ihyaul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Gresik Regency, East Java, Saturday.
He explained that the development of KSEKP is part of the implementation of Presidential Instruction Number 8 of 2025 concerning the Optimization of the Implementation of Poverty Alleviation and the Elimination of Extreme Poverty.

On that occasion, Muhaimin appreciated the synergy of BPJS Employment in supporting the development of KSEKP through social security protection for the drivers of the pesantren economy.

The government, he said, will continue to strengthen collaboration with pesantren, the business world, and various stakeholders so that KSEKP can develop into a center for community-based economic growth.
