JAKARTA - The Australian online security regulator has taken legal action against the Telegram messaging platform, accusing the platform of failing to detect and immediately remove videos promoting terrorism.
The eSafety Commissioner's office said Telegram failed to remove material promoting terrorism - including videos of executions by terrorists - for up to three weeks after receiving a report from a user in Australia, and did not delete the accounts responsible for spreading the material.

Telegram could face civil penalties of up to 54.6 million Australian dollars (about Rp688.5 billion) for failing to comply with Australia's Digital Security Act, the regulator said.
Local media reported that Telegram denied the allegations and said it would fight the lawsuit in court.
