Middle East Conflict Spread After 2 Ships in Egypt Burned by Drone Attack

JAKARTA - The fire that hit two ships in the port of Damietta, Egypt, was said to be caused by a drone attack.

Egyptian officials said no party had claimed responsibility for the incident, which occurred during cargo loading and unloading activities at the liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal.

There were no reports of any injuries or casualties.

The maritime risk management company Marisks on Wednesday said the affected ships had been moved outside the port.

The company also said that if this incident is proven to be a deliberate attack, it will mark a significant expansion of the regional conflict that extends to energy infrastructure in the Mediterranean region.

This is the first time Egyptian infrastructure has been targeted in the escalating conflict.
