KPK Reveals the Role of its Staff in the Rembang Regent Case: Disclosing Case Information for Father to Process

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said Setya Budi Dias, an administrative staff of the KPK, leaked information on the prosecution to his father, Lilik Budi Suprianto. He is suspected of sending corruption case documents via short message applications.

This suspicion was conveyed by the acting (Plt) Director of KPK Investigation Achmad Taufik Husein when officially announcing the determination of the suspect, Pemalang Regent Anom Widiyantoro and three other suspects on Thursday, July 30. He said that the information received by Lilik from Dias was then processed to make an approach.

"The person concerned (Setya Budi Dias) because he knows a little about the administrative processes at the KPK, which were then passed on to LBS (Lilik Budi Suprianto) as his parents or his father," Taufik told reporters at a press conference at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.

"Then approaches were made to the Regent so that the Regent felt 'ah this can be trusted, so is the information' because the person concerned LBS also showed that the person concerned had a child in the KPK," he continued.

Taufik said Lilik then provided information related to the handling of the alleged corruption case of the project in the Pemalang Regency Government.

"There are complaints in Pemalang Regency and it has entered the investigation stage. Namely, project bribery, position," he said.

After receiving this information, Anom was then suspected of blackmailing a number of regional units and private partners who worked on projects in the Pemalang area. The money collection was allegedly carried out through Mohamad Haris or Gus Haris as his trusted person.

"That, AWI, GHA, and LBS held three meetings at a restaurant in the Magelang and Semarang regions where LBS asked for a case management fee of Rp. 2 billion," said Taufik.

After being agreed upon, the handover of the money amounting to Rp. 1.2 billion occurred. "From the collection of money carried out by the Regent through the GHA from a number of regional devices and private parties," said Taufik.

"Regarding the remaining money collected by GHA, the KPK will still conduct a search."

As for this alleged extortion, the KPK has named 4 suspects, namely Anom Widiyantoro as the Regent of Pemalang; Mohamad Haris alias Gus Haris as a private party; Lilik Budi Suprianto who is a private party; and Setya Budi Dias as an administrative staff of the KPK.

As a result of their actions, Anom and Haris are suspected of violating Article 12 letter e and/or Article 12B of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes jo Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Law Code.

Meanwhile, Lilik and Dias are suspected of violating Article 12 letter e of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Corruption Crimes jo Article 20 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Law Code.
