ASDP Opens and Closes Ketapang-Gilimanuk Crossing Based on Weather Conditions

BANYUWANGI - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) Branch Ketapang, Banyuwangi, East Java has implemented a mechanism to open and close the Ketapang-Gilimanuk crossing operation due to high wave weather conditions and winds in the Bali Strait still fluctuating.

General Manager of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry Ketapang Branch Arief Eko Kurniansjah said that the adjustment of operations on the Ketapang-Gilimanuk route was part of an effort to mitigate risks to ensure that each voyage took place according to standards.

"The operation of the crossing is still very dependent on the development of maritime weather, and changes in wind speed and wave height that occur from time to time cause the service to be opened and closed on a situational basis based on field monitoring results and recommendations from authorities," he said as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, July 30.

On Wednesday (29/7), said Arief, operations at the Ketapang-Gilimanuk crossing were temporarily suspended before being reopened when weather conditions were deemed to meet safety requirements.

He emphasized that safety was the top priority in every crossing service, and operational adjustments were made solely as a risk mitigation measure when wind speed and wave height did not meet the safety standards of shipping.

"Once conditions improve, and it is declared safe by the authorities, the crossing service will be gradually reopened," said Arief.

Arief said that until now the condition of the vehicle queue on the side of the Ketapang Port is still relatively under control, and in the buffer zone in the Bulusan area it is starting to fill up, so that the density is visible at the access to the port.

"However, there has not been a long queue inside the port area, while on the side of the Gilimanuk Port, the vehicle queue is still in the port maneuvering area," he said.

Arief added that ASDP continues to strengthen coordination with BMKG, KSOP Class III Tanjung Wangi, East Java BPTD Class II Crossing Port Service Unit, and the police to minimize the impact on service users, as well as optimize the buffer zone in Bulusan as a temporary storage location for vehicles, especially logistics transportation.

"We from ASDP are also preparing additional fleets to speed up the decomposition of the queue immediately after weather conditions return to be conducive and sailing is declared safe," he said.
