Former Head of Taruna Kepri High School Arrested, Allegedly Blackmailing Rp143 Million Registration and SPP Funds

BATAM - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the Batu Aji Police in Batam City, Riau Islands (Kepri) arrested a man with the initials AP (41), a former Head of the Riau Islands High School, for alleged embezzlement in office.

"The disclosure of this case is a follow-up to a public report after a series of professional investigations and investigations by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Batu Aji Police," said Head of Public Relations of the Barelang Police, AKP Budi Santosa, confirmed by Antara, Wednesday, July 29.

The suspect was arrested at his residence on Monday evening, after undergoing a series of investigations and trials.

Budi explained that this case was revealed starting from the suspicion of the Chairman of the Kemilau Cendikia Indonesia Foundation, RR (48), when checking the official school account on October 4, 2025. At that time, the school account balance was only left with Rp. 41 million.

The results of the internal audit together with the treasurer's staff confirmed the indication of irregularities in the payment of registration and SPP from 12 parents of students through personal accounts or in cash to the suspects, not through the official school account.

The suspect, he said, then met the victim and admitted to using the money belonging to the foundation.

"The suspect also submitted a return statement and a payment summary showing that the total funds received amounted to IDR 143,000,000," he continued.

Based on the public report, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Batu Aji Police carried out a series of investigations, collected evidence, examined a number of witnesses, and carried out a trial until finally naming AP (41) as a suspect.

In handling this case, the police seized evidence in the form of one sheet of two bank statement.

For his actions, the suspect AP was charged with Article 488 and/or Article 486 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code (KUHP) regarding embezzlement, with a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
