200 Hot Spots Detected, BPBD Kalbar Set Emergency Alert Status for Smoke Disaster

PONTIANAK - The West Kalimantan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has set the emergency alert status for smoke disasters until November 15, 2026 following the detection of 200 hotspots in 12 districts.

"Based on data from BMKG Supadio as of July 27, 2026, there are 200 hotspots spread across 12 districts," said the Head of the BPBD Information Task Force for West Kalimantan, Daniel, in Pontianak, Wednesday, July 29, reported by ANTARA.

The emergency status for the smoke disaster has been in effect since February 2, 2026 and has been extended until November 15, 2026 because the spread of hotspots has increased in recent weeks.

It is stated that the three areas with the most hotspots are Kubu Raya Regency with 64 points, Ketapang 56 points, and Kayong Utara 53 points.

Meanwhile, Pontianak City, Singkawang City, Sambas Regency, and Sanggau were recorded as having no hotspots based on the data.

In addition to the provincial emergency standby status, eight regencies have also set a similar status, namely Kubu Raya, Ketapang, Sambas, Mempawah, Sanggau, Kayong Utara, Melawi, and Sintang. Several areas have even extended the period of the emergency standby status for smoke disasters.

Daniel said that two areas, namely Sambas and Mempawah, had previously also set the status of emergency response to the smoke disaster. However, the status only applies for seven days.

"To minimize the haze disaster and the increase in the number of hotspots, the BPBD of West Kalimantan together with the integrated task force carried out forest and peatland fires in a number of regencies/cities," he said.

Based on data from the West Kalimantan BPBD, most of the territory of West Kalimantan has the potential to experience ease of occurrence of forest and land fires (karhutla) from July 28 to August 3, 2026.

Therefore, the BPBD of West Kalimantan continues to coordinate with BMKG Supadio to monitor the development of hotspots in 14 regencies/cities and at the same time increase preparedness to face the potential for forest fires.

BPBD together with the integrated task force also continues to intensify land and air patrols to identify the source of hotspots and monitor the development of karhutla in a number of areas.

"In monitoring the development of an increasing number of hotspots, BPBD Kalbar is always on standby in making efforts to anticipate and extinguish forest fires," he said.
