Pramono asks that ethnic issues are not linked to the deadly clash in Matraman

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung asked the public not to bring up issues of tribal and ethnic identity in the deadly clashes that occurred in the Matraman area. He emphasized that Jakarta is a city built from diversity and does not want conflicts between residents to develop into identity issues.

The clashes in the Matraman area previously killed one person and left another resident seriously injured. The incident was briefly linked to the issue of the identity of a certain group that is developing in the community.

Pramono said the local government together with the security forces continued to coordinate to keep the situation under control. He asked residents not to be influenced by unverified information and to leave the handling process to law enforcement officers.

"Jakarta is a very open city. Diversity in Jakarta has always been well maintained. So I really don't want there to be any issues related to ethnicity in Jakarta because Jakarta is safe, comfortable, and peaceful," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, July 28.

According to Pramono, the problem that occurred in Matraman was an incident that had to be resolved legally, not expanded into an identity-based conflict.

"That there are then problems like in Matraman, that is a reality. But I ask everyone to restrain themselves and we will solve it with a cool head. Hopefully Jakarta will remain safe, comfortable, and open to anyone," he explained.

Pramono conveyed his concern about the incident. He instructed the DKI Provincial Government to strengthen communication with security personnel as well as community leaders, religious leaders, and youth leaders in the surrounding area.

He emphasized that the completion of the case must fully follow the applicable legal process. The DKI Provincial Government, he said, supports the steps of the police in conducting investigations and investigations.

In addition, Pramono reminded the public not to take actions that could escalate the conflict, including spreading information that has not been proven to be true.

"Specifically as the Governor of Jakarta, I appeal to all of our people to be calm, not to take provocative actions that have the potential to expand the conflict, not to spread information or disinformation that is not based on facts, and not to damage public facilities," said Pramono.

The DKI Provincial Government has also coordinated with the TNI and Polri to maintain security after the clash. Pramono hopes that conditions on the ground will remain conducive and residents will not be rekindled by the developing issues.

"So we have coordinated between the TNI, Polri, the DKI Jakarta Government to keep this conducive. Because the tagline "Take care of Jakarta" is indeed we use together and I believe that hopefully now those in the field have started to calm down, not ignited by things that are developing because of disinformation," he added.
