Prabowo Says Indonesia Can Become the Fourth Largest Country in the World by 2050

MALANG - President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia is expected to become the fourth largest and richest country in the world by 2050. However, this projection is considered dependent on the government's ability to take care of children, eliminate hunger, and reduce poverty.

Prabowo made the statement at the Simultaneous Harvest Event with the TNI in Malang, East Java, Friday, July 17, 2026.

"Many experts in the world have predicted that in 2045 to 2050 Indonesia will become the fourth largest and richest country in the world," said Prabowo.

He said China was expected to take the first position in 2050, followed by the United States and India. Indonesia is in fourth place.

Prabowo did not mention the name of the institution, the report, or the size of the economy that was the basis for the projection.

According to the President, Indonesia in 2050 is estimated to be above Japan, Britain, Brazil, and France.

"That's 2050, 25 years from now," he said.

Prabowo then highlighted children who are currently around 10 years old. They will be 35 years old in 2050 and become the main group that drives the national economy.

"If you don't take care of children, how can you become the fourth largest country in the world," he said.

He emphasized that the government must eliminate poverty, hunger, and extreme poverty so that the projection does not stop as a number.

Prabowo also opened the possibility of large savings in the state budget. In fact, the defense and police budgets can be reduced if necessary to accelerate poverty alleviation.

"The best defense is a strong and prosperous people," said Prabowo.

In his speech, Prabowo stated that Indonesia must prepare human resources from now on. According to the President, the size of the economy will not mean anything if children are still malnourished, educated, and have decent living opportunities.
