JAKARTA - The Chinese government has denied President Donald Trump's allegations that Beijing has interfered in US elections.

"The United States' accusations have no factual basis and aim to slander China," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Friday, July 17.

Trump previously accused China of obtaining 220 million US voter data since the 2020 election cycle, which he called "the largest election data compromise in history."

In a major speech broadcast nationally on prime time, Trump announced the declassification of intelligence documents that he said showed widespread foreign interference and serious vulnerabilities in the US election system.

However, Lin said similar accusations had long been proven unfounded.

"China adheres to the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries. China is not interested in interfering in the US election and has never done so," he said.

Instead, Lin questioned "who has arbitrarily interfered in the internal affairs of other countries, carried out indiscriminate surveillance of governments, businesses, and people around the world for a long time, and endangered the data of other citizens on a large scale.

The United States is scheduled to hold midterm elections in November 2026.

Trump, citing a CIA report, said that in mid-2018 during his first term, the Chinese Communist Party had a policy to "exploit all elements at home and abroad" who opposed Trump as an effort to reduce the potential for his vote in the 2020 election, pushing him to resign, or thwart his re-election.
