Israeli occupation forces stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem on Wednesday morning, chanting provocative songs and slogans inside the mosque's courtyard, the Jerusalem Governorate said.

The provincial government published a video recording showing the occupation forces inside the mosque complex during the raid, quoted from Anadolu (15/7).

Since 2003, the Israeli police have allowed Israeli occupation forces to enter the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound every day, except on Fridays and Saturdays.

According to a report released Sunday by the Palestinian Ministry of Awqaf and Religious Affairs, Israeli forces carried out 26 raids on the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in June.

Palestinians say Israel has stepped up efforts over decades to Judaize East Jerusalem, including the Al-Aqsa Mosque, and erase the city's Arab and Islamic identity.

On Tuesday morning, Israeli Knesset member Tzvi Sukkot stormed an orphanage in the occupied East Jerusalem Old City, vandalized the school's nameplate and Palestinian flag, and threatened to shut it down along with other Palestinian educational institutions in the city.

Sukkot, a member of the right-wing Religious Zionism party, uploaded a video showing him storming the school and vandalizing the sign.

"Schools belonging to the Palestinian Authority cannot continue to exist in areas under Israeli sovereignty," he said.

Sukkot, who heads the Knesset Education Committee, added: "We will close this school and all similar educational institutions in Jerusalem."

Some 390,000 Palestinians live in occupied East Jerusalem, where most schools continue to teach a Palestinian curriculum despite increased Israeli pressure, especially under Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government, to impose an Israeli curriculum on Palestinian schools.

In recent weeks, Sukkot has carried out visits and raids at several Arab schools in Israel, saying the measures were aimed at monitoring the curriculum.

The measures have drawn protests from parents who accuse him of incitement and trying to target Arab education.

The school raid comes amid a rise in attacks by Israeli right-wing groups on Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem ahead of Israel's general election scheduled for October 27.

Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state, citing international resolutions that do not recognize Israel's occupation of the city in 1967 or its annexation in 1980.
