Bantul - The Bantul Police (Polres) arrested four suspected perpetrators of a brawl accompanied by the use of sharp weapons against a student in Kapanewon Sanden, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY).

The Public Relations Officer of the Bantul Police, Iptu Rita Hidayanto, said that the disclosure of the case began with a police report received by the Sanden Police on July 12 regarding an alleged act of violence that resulted in a student with the initials RSP (16) being injured.

"After receiving the report, the Sanden Police Criminal Investigation Unit immediately carried out an investigation with the assistance of the Bantul Police Criminal Investigation Unit and the Srandakan Police Criminal Investigation Unit," he said as reported by ANTARA, Monday, July 13.

From the results of the investigation, the police managed to identify and secure four suspected perpetrators, namely ASA (17), FNS (17), DBK alias D (18), and AKPP (17) at the Sanden Police to undergo further examination.

"The suspected perpetrators admitted their involvement in the violence against the victim according to their respective roles," he said.

Rita explained that the incident occurred on Sunday (12/7) at around 02.00 WIB when the victim and his colleagues were riding a motorcycle to the Srigading area, Sanden District, Bantul to meet a friend.

Upon arrival at the location, the victim received information that there was a group of motorcyclists passing north and he and his friends then tried to find the group.

"While in the Perempatan Jembatan Merah area, Sanden District, Bantul, the victim's entourage passed by about 20 people who were riding about 10 motorcycles," he said.

One of the victim's friends, he continued, then chose to turn around because he was afraid, while the victim continued on his way.

When the victim returned to the south, the group of perpetrators allegedly chased from behind.

"The victim was then followed by a group of perpetrators. One of the perpetrators kicked the back of the motorcycle until the victim fell," he said.

After the victim fell, several perpetrators allegedly dragged the victim to the edge of the rice field while carrying sharp weapons.

"Based on the witness's statement, the perpetrators carried sharp weapons of the type of celurit and machete," he said.

According to him, the victim suffered gunshot wounds to the hands and the perpetrators fled south after learning of the arrival of police officers.

"The victim was immediately evacuated to Saras Adyatma Bambanglipuro Hospital before being referred to Panembahan Senopati Bantul Hospital for further medical treatment," he said.

In the disclosure of the case, the police secured evidence in the form of three machetes, one machete, and one motorcycle belonging to the victim which was damaged due to the incident.

Based on the results of the examination, he continued, ASA was suspected of playing a role in beating the victim and damaging the victim's motorcycle using a machete and FNS was suspected of hitting the victim with his bare hands.

"DBK alias D is suspected of stabbing the victim's motorcycle, while AKPP is suspected of carrying a machete and kicking the victim's motorcycle until it fell," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Bantul Police, AKBP Bayu Puji Hariyanto, emphasized that his party was committed to taking firm action against all forms of street crime, including acts of beating involving the use of sharp weapons.

"There is no room for perpetrators of violence who threaten the safety of residents," he said.

He ensured that the legal process against the suspected perpetrators would be carried out professionally in accordance with applicable regulations.

"Currently, the four suspected perpetrators have been secured and the process is still ongoing to complete the evidence and investigate the possibility of other perpetrators who were also involved in the incident," he said.
