Yusril: Handling the Ex-Jampidsus Case Must Be in Accordance with Legal Principles with Transparency

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections (Menko Kumham Imipas) Yusril Ihza Mahendra said that handling cases related to the former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) of the Attorney General's Office must run according to legal principles without neglecting the principles of transparency and justice.

Yusril said law enforcement officers needed to be careful in handling each case so that the legal process remained objective and in accordance with applicable regulations.

"It is indeed necessary to be extra careful. When prosecutors receive the submission of this case to conduct further investigations after being named a suspect, they must still uphold the legal principles related to law enforcement in the field of corruption," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, July 13.

He explained that each law enforcement agency must carry out their authority in accordance with the rules so that the legal process takes place professionally and can maintain public confidence.

"This is a heavy test for us. But as a reality that we cannot deny, it must be faced with firmness, courage, and the belief that the law must be upheld to build trust for all layers of society," he said.

Yusril emphasized that the law must still be enforced without looking at the background of the parties involved in a case, including if the case is related to officials or former officials of state institutions.

"Now the police have handed it over to the prosecutor. The prosecutor must comply with all rules in enforcing this law, even though the person being investigated is a former prosecutor's official himself," he said.

He said the process of enforcing the law against officials and former officials of state institutions was not something new, because previously it had also occurred to a number of figures from other law enforcement institutions.
