Member of Commission II of the House of Representatives Eka Widodo asked the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) to conduct massive training for all regional heads after the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) again arrested three regents through the Operation Catch the Hand (OTT) within one month.
He assessed that the series of cases was a serious alarm that corruption prevention efforts at the local government level were still not running optimally.
"This recurring case must be the subject of a joint evaluation. The Ministry of Home Affairs is not enough to only conduct administrative guidance, but must also strengthen integrity education, clean government governance, and supervision of regional heads from the beginning of their tenure," said Eka Widodo, Monday, July 13.
It is known that within a month, the KPK carried out OTT against three regional heads, namely the Regent of Kuantan Singingi Suhardiman Amby regarding the alleged bribery of filling positions, the Regent of Langkat Syah Afandin in the case of alleged bribery of projects, and the Regent of Sukoharjo Etik Suryani who allegedly carried out extortion against regional devices.
According to the politician, who is familiarly called Edo, the fact that three regional heads were caught in close proximity shows the need for more systematic preventive measures, not just prosecution after the crime occurs.
"We certainly appreciate the KPK's decisive steps in eradicating corruption. However, what is far more important is how the state is able to prevent these corrupt practices from early on so that they do not continue to recur in various regions," he said.
Edo emphasized that the Ministry of Home Affairs as a regional government mentor must take a greater role through sustainable anti-corruption socialization to regional heads, deputy regional heads, regional secretaries, to all regional apparatus organizations (OPD).
"Corruption prevention socialization must continue. Do not just during the inauguration of regional heads, but become a routine agenda involving the KPK, BPKP, internal government supervisory apparatus, and all stakeholders," he said.
Edo reminded that corruption in the regions not only harms state finances, but also hinders development and lowers the quality of public services. He hopes that the central government will use the OTT series as an opportunity to strengthen the system of training, supervision, and governance of regional governments so that similar cases do not continue to recur.
"Every rupiah that is corrupted is actually the lost rights of the people. Therefore, the integrity of regional heads is the main requirement to realize clean government, quality public services, and development that is for the people," he said.
