JAKARTA - The Supreme Leader of the Catholic Church worldwide, Pope Leo XIV, on Sunday warned that the 'Wind of War' was once again blowing in the Middle East, Ukraine and other parts of the world, urging continued efforts towards dialogue and diplomacy.
"Unfortunately, the winds of war are once again blowing in the Middle East, in Ukraine, and in many other parts of the world, sowing violence, terror, and death, and once again striking so many innocent people," Pope Leo said in a post on social media X, reported Anadolu (13/7).
Furthermore, Pope Leo called for hope for peace to be maintained even though the conflict is ongoing.
"Don't let this wind extinguish the small flame of hope and peace, even when it seems fragile and flickering," he said.
Pope Leo also renewed his call for dialogue, meetings, and diplomatic efforts to be carried out with perseverance.
He described the effort as "the only path capable of leading to a just and lasting peace," in which people can live in reconciliation and mutual security.
Pope Leo also emphasized the need to respect the dignity of every person as part of the effort to achieve lasting peace.
It is known that Russia and Ukraine have increased mutual attacks in recent weeks, when the war between the two countries that broke out in 2022 has not shown signs of ending.
In the Middle East, Iran and the United States resumed mutual attacks last week, after tensions had eased and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in June.
