Police Detains SPBU Officer who Helped Stockpile Fuel in Nagan Raya Aceh

JAKARTA - The Nagan Raya Police detained two officers of the Public Fuel Filling Station (SPBU) in the case of alleged embezzlement of subsidized fuel in Nagan Raya Regency, Aceh.

"The two suspects we detained are initials RR and H. Both of them are officers of a gas station in Nagan Raya," said Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Nagan Raya Police, AKP Muhammad Rizal, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, July 10.

Previously, the case of the scarcity and long queues for the purchase of subsidized biofuel in West Aceh and Nagan Raya was widely discussed on social media because it had been going on for days. According to Rizal, the detention of the two suspects was decided after the police managed to uncover the case of alleged embezzlement of subsidized biofuel which occurred in two locations, namely Alue Bilie Village and Serba Guna Village, Darul Makmur District, Nagan Raya Regency.

"Based on the results of the investigation, the suspects RR and H as gas station operators are suspected of providing special access to the perpetrators of hoarding fuel, to illegally fill subsidized Bio Solar," he said.

According to him, the motive of the two was to get personal benefits by giving special access to buy fuel in an unreasonable amount.

For their actions, the two gas station operators were charged with Article 55 of Law of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 of 2001 concerning Oil and Gas, as amended by Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning the Determination of the Job Creation Perppu in conjunction with Article 20 letter c of the New Criminal Code (Law Number 1 of 2023) regarding participation in criminal acts.

AKP Muhammad Rizal explained that the arrest and detention of the two suspects were carried out by the police on Tuesday (7/7) at around 21.00 WIB, after investigators had sufficient evidence through a series of case development actions.

AKP Muhammad Rizal emphasized that the Satreskrim of the Nagan Raya Police was committed to taking firm action against the misuse of subsidized fuel which was detrimental to the state and the wider community.

"The investigation process is still ongoing intensively. We will continue to investigate this matter to uncover the possibility of the involvement of other parties in the illegal fuel distribution network in the jurisdiction of the Nagan Raya Police. Our focus is to ensure that state subsidies are targeted," he concluded.
