Ukraine has stepped up its long-range drone attack campaign against Russia in recent months, particularly against energy infrastructure to target the Kremlin's vital revenue source to fund its war effort, which is now entering its fifth year.

"The air defense system intercepted and destroyed 419 Ukrainian fixed-wing unmanned aerial vehicles" across the country, the Russian Defense Ministry said on the state-owned Max platform, Al Arabiya reported from AFP (30/6).

However, it was not mentioned whether there were any casualties or injuries.

Meanwhile, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin earlier said that air defense forces had shot down 50 "enemy drones" on Monday night heading for the capital.

The attack came days after Russia shot down 660 Ukrainian drones between Thursday and Friday, one of the highest numbers since the start of the conflict.

Last week, Ukrainian attacks also caused a fire at a Russian-owned oil refinery southeast of Moscow.
