Member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Oleh Soleh, urged the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) to stop the implementation of the Basic Military Training (Latsarmil) for prospective managers of the Red and White Village Cooperative (Kopdes) and the Fishermen's Village Cooperative which are included in the Bachelor of Indonesia Development Movement Program (SPPI) 2026.

The demand was conveyed following the increase in the number of participants who died during the training program. Based on information provided by the Ministry of Defense, the death toll now stands at five.

"The death of five prospective managers of the Red and White Kopdes is a very serious matter. Do not take lightly the lives of people who die!," said Oleh Soleh, Saturday, June 27.The latest victim is Nola Dya Sari who participated in Latsarmil at the Dudik Bela Negara Kalimantan Education Unit. Previously, the other four participants who died were Yonanda Muhammad Taufiq on June 17, 2026, Anisa Muyassaroh on June 18, 2026, Novia Rahmadhani Sihotang on June 22, 2026, and Muhammad Rifki Renaldi Gunawan on June 25, 2026.

"I urge the Ministry of Defense to temporarily stop the implementation of Latsarmil and conduct a thorough evaluation of the program," he said.

According to Oleh Soleh, the Ministry of Defense should not consider the lives of the participants who died cheap. They are the best sons and daughters of the nation who have the spirit to contribute to the economic development of the community through the Kopdes Merah Putih program.

"They are the children of the nation who are fighting to support the success of the Kopdes Merah Putih program by registering as prospective managers. Therefore, every incident that causes the loss of life must be a serious concern and should not be considered a normal thing," he said.

The PKB legislator from the West Java District also asked for a total improvement to the coaching and training system provided to prospective Kopdes managers. According to him, the training approach must be adjusted to the background of participants who are civilians, not military soldiers.

"There must be a total evaluation and improvement of the coaching and training patterns provided. They are civilians so that the physical training carried out should not be too heavy. They are not soldiers and of course their physical ability is not the same as soldiers who have undergone military education," he said.

By Soleh emphasized that the main objective of the SPPI and Kopdes Merah Putih program is to prepare human resources who are able to manage cooperatives and drive rural economic development. Therefore, according to him, the safety and health aspects of participants must be the top priority in every stage of training.

"The Ministry of Defense must conduct a thorough evaluation, reveal the causes of the participants' deaths transparently, and ensure that similar incidents do not recur in the future," concluded Oleh Soleh.
