JAKARTA - The Democracy Literacy Spectrum (SLD) considers the demonstration actions of students and various elements of society as part of the function of control in the democratic system. The delivery of aspirations is considered a reasonable response when the public assesses that there are still problems in government governance.
This view emerged in a seminar entitled *National Solidarity for Indonesia to Overcome* which was held in Jakarta, Friday, June 26. This forum was attended by a number of youth leaders, academics, and representatives of community organizations to discuss the dynamics of mass action that occurred in various regions.
Coordinator of the Indonesian Youth Forum Raya (FPIR), Fauzan Ohorella, said the increase in demonstrations was a form of social control that was common in democratic life.
"I think this is a natural thing when we as a community feel that there is a problem with government governance. This is a reaction that comes from the current public unrest," said Fauzan.
However, Fauzan assessed that the student movement should not be directed at narratives that have the potential to break the unity of the nation. According to him, the issue regarding "Reformasi Volume 2" does not reflect the substance of the student struggle and has the potential to disrupt government stability.
"We must be able to maintain the national solidarity of the Prabowo-Gibran government. From this discussion, we must be a message for groups who want to delegitimize the solidity of the government today," he said.
On the same occasion, the Special Staff to the Deputy Minister of Manpower, Wawan Sugiyanto, also responded to the issue of employment which has recently become a public concern, including news about job termination (PHK) and investment dynamics.
According to him, this issue is not entirely the responsibility of the government because it is influenced by the conditions of the business world. He assessed that improving workers' welfare must go hand in hand with the company's ability.
Wawan also encouraged the strengthening of the micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) sector as one of the solutions in expanding employment.
"MSMEs are also part of the workforce. Therefore, the government must strengthen the MSME sector as the cells of the people's economy," he said.
Meanwhile, the Director of Student Press Agency of the Islamic Student Press Association, PB HMI, Niswatus Shabrina, emphasized that the presentation of aspirations is a constitutional right of the people as well as an important element in democracy.
He assessed that the delivery of opinions is now not only carried out through demonstrations, but also utilizes various digital channels, including social media.
"Today, this aspiration can be through many methods. Social media channels in the form of content are also forms of aspirations. Therefore, the press as part of the pillar of democracy must be an educational space for the public," said Shabrina.
According to him, the media also has a responsibility to maintain the substance of issues that the public is fighting for so that it does not shift just to pursue public attention or the high number of readers.
