JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has started construction of a pedestrian deck or "Donat Bridge" in the Dukuh Atas area, Central Jakarta.

The facilities, which are targeted to be the node of the transfer of six modes of transportation, are expected to be able to reduce the congestion that has often occurred in the area.

The groundbreaking project was carried out on Sunday, June 21. Later, the pedestrian deck will connect various mass transportation modes operating in Dukuh Atas, ranging from KRL, Airport Train, Transjakarta, MRT Jakarta, LRT Jabodebek to the Jakarta LRT which is planned to be connected to the area.

DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the presence of the Donat Bridge will make intermodal transfers easier without having to go out to the road area.

"(The line) Pedestrian with six connected modes will be seamless mobility. This means that people will no longer be hot, rainy, and so on and so on," said Pramono in the Dukuh Atas area, Central Jakarta, Sunday, June 21.

According to Pramono, the project was financed by PT MRT Jakarta. However, he has not revealed the value of the investment that has been poured for the construction of the facility.

The DKI Provincial Government had hoped that the Donat Bridge could be completed in time for the 500th anniversary of the City of Jakarta in 2027. However, this target is estimated to be difficult to achieve because the construction is projected to be completed in 2028.

In addition to facilitating passenger mobility, Pramono assessed that the existence of the pedestrian deck would change the pattern of movement of public transportation users who have so far still carried out a lot of passenger boarding and disembarking activities on the roadside.

He believes that this condition is one of the causes of the slowdown in traffic flow in the Dukuh Atas area, especially during rush hours and when it rains.

"It can be confirmed that it will definitely reduce congestion. Because why? As we all know, almost every afternoon or if it's raining, every morning, a lot of people come down to the roadside. Then this is what disturbs traffic in this place," said Pramono.

According to him, after the integrated facility is operational, passengers no longer need to get off the road to switch modes.

"If this is already there, people will no longer go down, of course people will use the existing road above because that's what they want to go to the MRT, airport train, LRT here," he added.
