MEDAN - Deputy Minister of Religion (Wamenag) Romo Muhammad Syafii invited all Muslims in the country to interpret the commemoration of the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram 1448 Hijriah with self-reflection.

"Self-reflection is a way to evaluate the journey we have been through for a year honestly and objectively," said the Minister of Religion Romo in the Gebyar Muharram 1448 Hijriah held by the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) North Sumatra, Tuesday.

From self-reflection, continued the Deputy Minister of Religion, a momentum of migration will be born which teaches that every person gives the spirit to move towards a better condition.

The Minister of Religion said the Islamic New Year's warning teaches every Muslim to three aspects, namely the momentum of muhasabah, the momentum of hijrah, and the momentum of tajdid.

"Tajdid teaches us to continue to make reforms and improvements. Whatever it is, as long as it is in the freedom for the improvement and welfare of the people," said Wamenag Romo.

The Minister of Religion also appreciated that the North Sumatra MUI was considered successful in organizing this Islamic New Year celebration because of the support and participation of the people.

"This shows that the level of public confidence in MUI is currently very high, so we must take good care of it," he said.

The activities of the Gebyar Muharram held by the North Sumatra MUI, among others, the launch of the Hijri calendar, street march competition, speech competition, akbar tabligh, Marhaban competition, poetry creation competition and UMKM bazaar.

"MUI has a strategic position as a partner of the people and the government. MUI must continue to carry out the function of Himayatul Ummah (protecting the people), Shadiqul Hukumah (critical and constructive partners of the government), and play a role in encouraging the strengthening of the people's economy," said Wamenag Romo.

The Chairman of the MUI North Sumatra Muharram Celebration Committee, Muhammad Jamil, said that around 2,000 Muslims attended the MUI North Sumatra Office to attend this event.
