JAKARTA - The Rector of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Asep Saepudin Jahar stated that the momentum of 1 Muharam or the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah became a space for joint reflection to continue to strengthen the commitment to build an Indonesia that is integral, just, and progressive.

"The momentum of the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah should not be interpreted as merely a change of religious calendar. More than that, the Islamic New Year needs to be a space for collective reflection," said Asep in Jakarta, Tuesday.

According to him, the event of the migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Madinah is an important milestone in the history of civilization which not only means a change of place, but also a social transformation that produces a just, inclusive, productive, and community-oriented society.

Asep assessed that Indonesia is currently entering a new era with various global dynamics, ranging from the development of artificial intelligence (AI), climate change, global economic uncertainty, geopolitical conflicts, to technological disruption that affects almost all aspects of people's lives.

Therefore, he invited all elements of the nation to make this spirit of migration an inspiration in strengthening integrity, advancing public governance, and improving human capital quality through education.

In terms of public governance, Asep emphasized that the progress of the nation is determined by the quality of integrity in various sectors.

"Indonesia needs this momentum of migration to continue to improve transparent, professional, and service-oriented governance," he said.

In the economic field, Asep appreciated various development and industrialization efforts carried out by the government to increase the added value of the national economy. He emphasized that the current economic growth is the foundation for the benefits of welfare to continue to be sustainable for all levels of society.

Meanwhile, in the education sector, Asep assessed that Indonesia's future depends heavily on the quality of human resources who are able to adapt to the development of digital technology, artificial intelligence, and automation.

He emphasized that universities must become centers for the development of science, research, innovation, and character formation.

"Education should not only produce graduates who are academically superior, but also have integrity, ethics, and social responsibility," he said.

Asep added that the challenges of the nation cannot be solved by one party alone. The government, universities, business world, religious leaders, media, and civil society need to work together to build a culture of integrity, strengthen innovation, and expand access to quality welfare and education.

He hopes that the Islamic New Year 1448 Hijriah will be a momentum to strengthen the spirit of change towards a more advanced Indonesia.

According to him, if all elements of the nation are able to carry out their roles optimally, then the dream of a Golden Indonesia 2045 can be realized together.

"The true meaning of migration is the courage to change for the better. It is this spirit that needs to continue to be kept alive in the life of the nation and the state," he said.
