JAKARTA - Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Yassierli welcomed the adoption of international labor standards that specifically address decent work in the platform economy.
This was announced at the Plenary Session of the Closing of the International Labour Conference (ILC) held in Geneva, Switzerland in June 2026.
The Minister of Home Affairs in his statement received in Jakarta, Saturday, said the adoption of the standard was good news for the government, workers and business actors in the platform economy ecosystem.
"The government welcomes the birth of international standards regarding decent work in the platform economy," said Yassierli.
According to him, the economic development of the platform has changed the way people work, earn a living, and access economic opportunities, so that worker protection needs to go hand in hand with the space for innovation and digital business growth.
"For Indonesia, worker protection and digital innovation must go hand in hand, so that the digital economic transformation really benefits workers, businesses and society," said the Minister of Home Affairs.
He conveyed that the Convention on Decent Work in the Platform Economy is an important framework for member countries of the International Labor Organization (ILO).
Indonesia considers that the convention maintains a balance between strengthening the protection of digital platform workers and flexibility for each country to implement it in accordance with its national laws and practices.
According to the Minister of Home Affairs, a number of important principles in the standard need to be a common concern, including occupational safety and health, fair remuneration, social protection, transparency in the use of automated systems, protection of personal data, fair processes, and a fact-based regulatory approach.
For the public, this issue is important because work based on digital platforms is getting closer to daily life.
"Online motorcycle taxis, online couriers, and workers who use applications to get jobs and income need certainty of protection, system transparency, occupational safety and health, and fairness in obtaining income," he said.
The Minister of Home Affairs emphasized that Indonesia is one of the countries with rapid digital economic growth and has millions of digital platform workers.
Therefore, this international standard becomes a momentum to improve the economic governance of the platform, protect workers, ensure workers understand their rights and obligations, and ensure that the platform business continues to grow sustainably.
Meanwhile, the Director General of Industrial Relations and Social Security for the Manpower Ministry, Indah Anggoro Putri, explained that the adoption of the ILO standard does not necessarily mean that all of its substance applies directly and uniformly in Indonesia.
Each provision will go through the process of adjustment with the legal framework and national labor policy.
The government will actively follow up on the ILO's follow-up process, including discussions at the ILO Governing Body meeting in November this year and the formulation of technical recommendations that regulate the substance in more detail.
"This is good news and an important momentum for the Indonesian tripartite. However, Indonesia still needs to take the right mechanism, pay attention to the ongoing process at the ILO, and assess national readiness before making a decision on ratification," said Indah.
