JAKARTA - One person was killed by a car bomb on the eastern outskirts of Moscow on Tuesday morning. The Russian Federation Investigative Committee said an investigation was underway to uncover the terror.

The car bomb blast occurred at around 5.30am local time in the town of Balashikha, east of the Russian capital, according to officials.

The Investigative Committee said "the explosive device was detonated as a BMW X3 car drove near a residential apartment building."

"As a result, the driver of the car suffered several injuries, and died at the scene," the committee said in a statement posted on Telegram as reported by ABC News, Tuesday, June 9.

The terror probe has been launched but the driver of the car has not been identified.

"Investigators and forensic experts, together with operational services, are conducting an inspection at the scene. A series of necessary forensic examinations, including medical and explosive examinations, will be scheduled in the near future," the committee said.

The committee did not mention the possible motive for the bombing, nor did it mention any suspects.
