JAKARTA - The Iranian military said on Sunday they targeted Israel's Ramat David airbase with ballistic missiles, in response to Israeli attacks on civilians in southern Lebanon and the southern outskirts of Beirut.

In a statement, the military said the airbase had served as a launch point for Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

The attack was carried out "in response to the massacre carried out by the Zionist entity (Israel) against civilians in southern Lebanon and the southern outskirts of Beirut," the statement said, launching Anadolu (8/6).

The military described the attack as a "warning," and accused the US and Israel of repeatedly violating a ceasefire agreement reached on April 8.

The statement warned that further attacks would be met with a "wider and harsher" Iranian response.

Furthermore, the statement warned, "if Israel responds to Iran's attacks or does not stop its attacks on Lebanon, Iran's attacks will continue."

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said: "Our acceptance of the April 8 ceasefire depends on the cessation of hostilities on all fronts; but as usual, the US and the Zionist regime do not comply with their commitments."

The IRGC said both sides continued their "aggression and crimes" in Lebanon and violated the ceasefire through repeated attacks on Iranian waters and vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, the Gulf of Oman, and the Indian Ocean.

Meanwhile, the commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, in a statement broadcast by Press TV, warned that if Israel expanded its attacks to the southern outskirts of Beirut or responded to Iranian actions, Israel would face "a more devastating and regrettable blow," adding "a devastating attack will be launched against the regime and its supporters."

Iran launched three waves of missiles towards northern Israel on Sunday, according to Israeli media reports, marking its first attack since the April 8 ceasefire took effect.
