JAKARTA - The University of Indonesia (UI) has imposed sanctions on 15 of the 16 reported in the case of alleged Electronic-Based Sexual Violence (KSBE) in the Faculty of Law (FH) campus.
Director of Public, Media, Government, and International Relations of the UIErwinAgustian Panigoromengatakan every decision is based on evidence and applicable rules.
"UI handles every report of violence seriously, impartially and on the side of the victim. The sanctions imposed are based on the results of a thorough investigation and the recommendations of the PPK Task Force and the Expert Team, with a level of sanctions proportional to the proven violations," he said as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, June 2.
Based on the results of the examination, of the 15 reported who were proven to have committed violations, 3 people were subject to academic activity delays (expulsion) for 3 semesters, 7 people were expelled for 2 semesters, and 4 people were expelled for 1 semester.
One reported was given a light administrative sanction according to the applicable provisions, while another reported was found not to have committed an offense based on an evaluation of all available evidence.
In addition to the sanction of a suspension, the respondents are required to undergo psychological counseling and take courses on sexual non-violence as a form of prevention of recurrence.
UI emphasized that enforcement of rules related to violence was carried out consistently for every proven violation, regardless of the status, position, faculty, and background of the parties involved.
All reports are processed based on applicable provisions and the results of objective searches, so that each decision can be accounted for.
Since the report was received, the UI PPK Task Force has carried out a series of handling stages which include receiving and verifying reports, examining victims, witnesses, and the accused, collecting and deepening evidence, additional assessments, and discussing the results of the examination in an internal meeting to formulate recommendations. All of these processes are the basis for university leadership in determining the final decision.
UI is committed to continuing to accompany and protect victims throughout and after the handling process, including ensuring the availability of recovery services and guarantees for the victims' academic rights.
At the same time, UI strengthened preventive measures throughout the campus environment so that similar incidents could be prevented and every UI citizen could study and work in a safe environment.
"Handling this case is not the end, but rather part of UI's ongoing efforts to build a safe and violence-free campus environment. Our focus is on victim recovery and prevention, so that every UI citizen is protected," said Erwin.
He said that the handling of this case was carried out in accordance with the applicable provisions by referring to the Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Number 55 of 2024 and the Rector of UI Regulation Number 37 of 2025 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Environment of the University of Indonesia.
This determination is the result of a careful examination process with upholding the principles of due process, accountability, and victim protection, and is contained in the Rector's Decree of UI Number 504/SK/R/UI/2026 to 519/SK/R/UI/2026.
The decision is a follow-up to the results of the investigation and recommendations of the UI Prevention and Handling of Violence Task Force (PPK Task Force) together with the Expert Team which was formed through Rector's Decree Number 360/SK/R/UI/2026.
The sanctions were imposed in stages by considering the form of violations, the level of objections, and the degree of involvement of each reported person who was proven through the examination.
The sanctions framework is determined in accordance with the Minister's Regulation and the Rector's Regulation which includes administrative sanctions, suspension of academic activities (expulsion), to dismissal as a student, which is applied according to the level of objection to the violation.
This tiered approach ensures that each decision is proportional to the proven and objectively accountable acts.
