Sumba Barat - The West Sumba Police, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Police, found the belongings of a Brazilian tourist who was stolen by an unknown person (OTK) while traveling to Marosi Beach, Patiala Bawa Village, Lamboya District, West Sumba Regency (Sumbar).

West Sumba Police Chief AKBP Yohanis Nisa Pewali said his party immediately moved after receiving a report regarding the loss of a bag containing valuables belonging to the tourist on Thursday, May 28.

"As soon as we received the report, Lamboya Police personnel immediately carried out a search and search around the scene of the incident. The effort continued until the next day and all the victim's belongings were found," he said in a statement received in Kupang, Sunday, quoted by Antara.

He explained that the victim was known to be enjoying the atmosphere of Marosi Beach and taking pictures of children playing horses on the beach.

When the victim left his bag for a moment to take a picture, someone whose identity was not known took the bag and ran away.

The victim chased the perpetrator after hearing the screams of residents who saw the theft. In his escape, the perpetrator allegedly threw away some of the items in the bag.

After an intensive search, the police managed to find all the victim's belongings, including US$300 in cash, Rp2 million in cash, one drone, one camera lens, five camera batteries, AirPods, ATM cards, and motorcycle ignition keys.

Although some items were found in a damaged condition, all items were successfully secured and returned to the victim.

Yohanis said the victim decided not to continue the case to the legal process because all of his belongings had been found and he was scheduled to return to Brazil in early June.

According to him, the safety of tourists is a shared responsibility between security personnel, tourism business actors, and local communities.

"We want to ensure that anyone who comes to West Sumba feels safe, comfortable, and protected. Tourism is one of the region's important assets, so the safety of tourists must continue to be maintained together," he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the perpetrators of the theft, Yohanis said that until now the identity of the perpetrators is still under investigation and has not been identified.

"Although all the victim's belongings have been found, we are still conducting an in-depth investigation to uncover the perpetrators involved in this incident. Until now, the perpetrators are still in the search," said Yohanis.
