JAKARTA - The Padang City Police, West Sumatra, arrested the perpetrator of a motorcycle theft that occurred in the Purus Beach area on Tuesday (26/5).

Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Padang Police, Kompol Yasin, in Padang, Wednesday, said the perpetrator with the initials TS (28) had threatened the victim with scissors while carrying out the action.

"The action of seizing the motorcycle occurred on Tuesday night and the victim immediately reported to the Padang Police," said Yasin.

He said the report was immediately followed up by the Rapid Response Unit of the Padang Police Criminal Investigation Unit by conducting an investigation.

From the results of the investigation, the police obtained sufficient initial evidence and arrested the perpetrator without resistance.

After being secured, TS was immediately taken to the Padang Police to undergo further examination.

According to Yasin, the perpetrator was charged with Article 479 of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code regarding theft with violence which is threatened with a maximum imprisonment of nine years.

He explained that the incident began when the perpetrator approached the victim in the Purus Beach area on Tuesday (26/5) evening.

The perpetrator then threatened the victim using a modified scissors and hit the victim's head before taking away the victim's motorcycle.

Yasin appealed to the public to increase vigilance against theft, especially during long holidays when community activities increase.

He added that the public can contact the emergency service 110 if they need police assistance.

"Satreskrim Polresta Padang is on standby 24 hours to provide services to the public in Padang City," said Yasin.
