JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has given the opportunity for dozens of Muslim prisoners to perform the Eid al-Adha prayer 1447 Hijriah today, May 27. The activity was held at the Al-Ikhlas Mosque, Gedung Merah Putih KPK, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.

"KPK facilitates the performance of the Eid prayer for Muslim prisoners," said KPK spokesperson Budi Prasetyo to reporters through his written statement quoted by Antara, Wednesday, May 27.

Budi said that a total of 52 Muslim prisoners were performing Eid al-Adha prayers. "This is a manifestation of fulfilling the basic rights of prisoners, including in carrying out worship according to their religion and beliefs," he said.

"Of the total 62 prisoners in the KPK Branch Detention Center Red and White Building and C1 Building, there are 52 Muslim prisoners who will follow this worship. The other prisoners are 5 Christians, 2 Catholics, 2 Buddhists, and 1 Hindu," he continued.

Furthermore, the prisoners will be given time to receive visits from family and relatives who are usually allowed to bring food. Activities start from 10.00 WIB to 13.00 WIB.

"KPK considers the fulfillment of the right to worship as part of respect for human rights and guidance for prisoners during the legal process," said Budi.

"Therefore, the implementation of routine religious worship is facilitated by still prioritizing the rules that apply in the prison environment."
