Today's Arafah Wukuf Sermon Delivered by Sheikh Ali Al-Hudhaifi, Translated into 35 Languages

JAKARTA - The Saudi government has appointed the senior Imam and Khatib of the Prophet's Mosque, Sheikh Ali Al-Hudhaifi, to deliver a sermon at the peak of the Hajj, Wukuf Arafah, this year which was held on Tuesday.

The General Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque announced the appointment, with the sermon to be delivered from the Namirah Mosque in Arafah on 9 Dzulhijjah 1447 Hijri or May 26, 2026, as reported by Saudi News (25/5).

Born on May 22, 1947 in Makkah Province, Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Ali Al-Hudhaifi is considered one of the most respected Quran reciters and Islamic scholars in the Muslim world.

Quoted from the Daily Sun, Sheikh Ali graduated in Syariah from Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University and later obtained a master's and doctorate in Islamic Law from Al-Azhar University.

Since 1979 Sheikh Ali has served as the Imam and Khatib of the Prophet's Mosque. He also led the Tarawih prayers at the Grand Mosque in 1981 and served as the Khatib at the Quba Mosque.

Meanwhile, the General Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque said this year's Arafah sermon will be translated into 35 languages and broadcast through digital platforms and affiliate channels to reach Muslims around the world.

The head of the Presidency, Sheikh Abdurrahan As-Sudais, said that this initiative aims to communicate the message of Islam on moderation and ensure that Muslims who do not speak Arabic can benefit from the spiritual and humanitarian themes of the sermon, quoted from Gulf News.

He explained that this translation reflects Saudi Arabia's commitment to serving Islam and Muslims and highlights the kingdom's efforts to improve services for pilgrims through modern technology and digital communication platforms.

He added that the presidency had deployed a special technical, media and translation team to ensure that the sermon reached as wide a global audience as possible with high professional and technical standards.

In addition to English, this year's sermon will also be translated into Indonesian, French, Urdu, Turkish, Persian, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian, Bengali, Hindi, Malay, Swahili, Somali, Pashto, Punjabi, Tamil, German, Italian, Swedish, Uzbekistan to Nepal.
