MANADO - Culture Minister Fadli Zon inaugurated the revitalization of the North Sulawesi Provincial Museum in Manado, Friday (22/5). He asked regional museums not only to be a place to store old objects, but to live as cultural spaces close to the community.

Fadli said museums must be a source of stories, inspiration, creation of new works, and added value for regional development.

"Museums are one of the showcases of culture and civilization that advance the Indonesian national culture in the midst of world civilization," said Fadli.

He hopes that the North Sulawesi Provincial State Museum will become an example of an inclusive and impactful regional museum.

Fadli also encouraged the management of museums to involve more parties, including through cooperation between the government and the private sector. According to Fadli, philanthropists who care about art, culture, and museums need to participate in strengthening museum management.

North Sulawesi Governor Yulius Selvanus said the museum was the pride of the people of North Sulawesi. The museum was built since 1974 and now has a new face.

"We agree to preserve, maintain, and know the history of North Sulawesi, both past and present," said Yulius.

He said the museum now combines traditional, conventional, and modern technology elements, including artificial intelligence or AI.

During the event, the government also handed over 21 certificates of Intangible Cultural Heritage which were represented by seven regencies/cities in North Sulawesi.

In addition, three Provincial Cultural Heritage certificates were handed over to two regencies and one National Cultural Heritage certificate to North Minahasa Regency.

The North Sulawesi government also handed over BPJS Employment to 1,000 artists and cultural communities, as well as kolintang musical instruments to seven sanggar in seven regencies/cities.

The revitalization of this museum is part of the local government's efforts to preserve the culture of North Sulawesi. The government hopes that the museum will not only be a place for education and recreation, but also a space that will make people more familiar with the history, culture, and identity of their region.
