JAKARTA - The Ministry of Transportation has strengthened the implementation of ramp checks or vehicle safety inspections on inter-provincial intercity buses (AKAP) to ensure fleet operations, improve travel safety, and provide a sense of security for the public ahead of the Eid al-Adha 1447 Hijriah/2026 Masehi.
"We always try to ensure the safety of the community, one of which is increasing public transportation supervision or ramp checks at terminals and bus pools to socialization of driving safety," said Director General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) Aan Suhanan, quoted by Antara.
Aan said that the examination was carried out routinely at 115 Type A Terminals (TTA) which were spread across various regions of Indonesia.
Until the period from January 1 to May 15, 2026, the Ministry of Transportation has carried out more than 1.4 million inspections on interprovincial intercity buses (AKAP) departing from Type A Terminals as part of efforts to maintain the safety standards of land transportation.
Through the ramp check, officers check the technical condition of the vehicle, completeness of administration, and driver readiness before the fleet is allowed to operate.
Ahead of the long Eid al-Adha holiday 1447 Hijriah, continued Aan, the Directorate General of Land Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation appealed to public transportation operators and the public to always prioritize safety and comply with traffic rules during travel.
During the long Eid al-Adha holiday this year, the Ministry of Transportation estimates an increase in community mobility on road sections and transportation nodes with the peak of the outgoing flow on Selass (26/5) and the peak of the return flow on Monday (1/6).
The Ministry of Transportation continues to make various efforts to ensure the safety and smooth flow of traffic, especially during long holidays through cross-ministerial/institutional coordination, preparing personnel at vital points, increasing supervision, and educating the public.
"For users of public transportation to choose transportation that meets safety aspects," he said.
According to Aan, the public can use the Land Mitra application to check information and legality of public transportation and also know that the bus has passed the ramp check through the sticker attached to the windshield of the vehicle, as a sign that the vehicle has met the aspects of road legality.
Aan advised motorists to rest periodically every two to four hours to reduce the risk of accidents due to fatigue. Road users are also asked to always be disciplined and comply with traffic rules.
"Private vehicle users must always be disciplined, such as obeying the applicable rules, using seatbelts, wearing national standard helmets, to obeying speed limits and adjusting speed to weather conditions and roads," said Aan.
