JAKARTA - The Chinese Foreign Ministry confirmed that Beijing was ready to work with the United States in managing the differences between the two countries during the meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump.

"China is ready to work with the United States to expand cooperation and manage differences in the spirit of equality, respect, and mutual benefit, and provide more stability and certainty for a changing and turbulent world," said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun at a press conference in Beijing, Monday, May 11.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced that US President Donald Trump will pay a state visit to China on May 13-15, 2026 at the invitation of President Xi Jinping.

This will be the first meeting between the two after the October 30, 2025 meeting in Busan on the sidelines of the APEC Summit.

"This will be the first visit by an American president to China in almost nine years. President Xi will have in-depth exchanges with President Trump on major issues related to China-US relations as well as world peace and development," said Guo Jiakun.

Guo Jiakun said that the diplomacy of the head of state played an irreplaceable role in providing strategic guidance for China-US relations. However, he did not explain anything else about the details of the two heads of state's talks.

Trump last visited China in 2017, but Xi and Trump have made several phone calls before the weekend meeting.

The White House on Sunday (10/5) stated that the main agenda of the meeting of the two leaders included economic and security issues with the principle of "reciprocity and fairness" to improve the welfare of the American people.

A senior US official confirmed that there was no change in Washington's policy towards Taiwan, a self-governing island claimed by China as its territory, and did not anticipate any changes in the future.

The statement comes amid speculation that Xi will seek to shift the US position on Taiwan, including urging Trump to stop selling weapons to Taipei.

The official stressed that the arms sales to Taiwan approved in the first year of Trump's second term were more than during the entire presidency of his predecessor, Joe Biden.

The White House said the US and China are targeting additional commercial deals in the aerospace, agriculture, and energy sectors.

The summit will open Thursday morning with a welcoming ceremony, followed by a tour of the Temple of Heaven and a state banquet.

On Friday, Trump is scheduled to have tea and a working lunch with Xi before leaving Beijing.

Another US official hinted that China would likely increase purchases of American agricultural products and other goods. Trump will be accompanied by executives from major US companies.

The Trump administration also wants to accelerate discussions on the establishment of a "Trade Council" and an "Investment Council" between the world's two largest economies, as well as opening new channels of communication regarding artificial intelligence security.

As part of the final preparations, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that he would meet with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng in Seoul on Wednesday.

The two have been leading bilateral negotiations since last year.
