JAKARTA - The train accident that occurred at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) became the public's concern after claiming many victims.

Polda Metro Jaya has examined dozens of witnesses to uncover the exact cause of the accident. Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya, Budi Hermanto, said that "Until now, investigators have asked for information from 31 people, consisting of the reporter, taxi driver, guard, witnesses around the location, victims, operational officers of PT KAI, and other parties who know the event directly. "

Budi explained that the handling of the case has now entered the investigation stage and is handled by the Subdit Kamneg Ditreskrimum Polda Metro Jaya.

"So far, investigators have checked the crime scene, collected evidence, deepened CCTV footage, coordinated with the hospital regarding the victim, requested a visa, and examined witnesses and other parties concerned," he added.

In the future, investigators will still ask for additional information from a number of parties, such as related departments to railway agencies. This step is taken to complete the investigation process so that the picture of the incident can be revealed in a comprehensive and objective manner.

It is known that the accident that occurred on Monday evening resulted in 16 people dying and dozens of others being injured. The incident began with a taxi that experienced electrical interference until it broke down in the middle of a piece of track.

The vehicle was then hit by a passing KRL. As a result of the incident, the KRL line to Cikarang made an emergency stop at the station. However, in a stopped condition, the train was actually hit from behind by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train.

The violent collision caused the rear car, which was a special car for women, to be severely damaged and caused many casualties.
