JAKARTA - Iranian forces launched a drone attack on several American ships in retaliation for the shooting and interception of Iranian ships by US forces.
As reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Iran's semi-official news agency Tasnim reported that after US forces boarded the Touska container ship in the Gulf of Oman, Iranian drones were launched against American ships, without specifying whether the target was military or commercial.
Iran earlier confirmed US forces seized an Iranian vessel and warned they would soon retaliate for the action, which it called a violation of the ceasefire.
Iran and the United States agreed to a two-week ceasefire mediated by Pakistan that took effect from when it was announced on April 7.
Meanwhile, the Fars News Agency reported that the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters said US forces had targeted the ship, disabled its navigation system and boarded it after firing, quoting military spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari.
Ship tracking data showed Touska departed from Port Klang in Malaysia on April 12.
The incident was first announced by US President Donald Trump on Sunday, which was later confirmed by the US Central Command (CENTCOM), and said the USS Spruance intercepted the Iranian-flagged cargo ship, which tried to break through the US naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman.
According to CENTCOM, the Marines continue to hold the ship. In a statement, CENTCOM said the ship was heading for the port of Bandar Abbas in Iran.
CENTCOM also released a video recording on the X social media platform showing a US warship warning the ship before firing.
Zolfaghari said, "The United States, which is aggressive, violated the ceasefire by engaging in maritime piracy, attacking one of the Iranian ships after disabling its navigation system."
He added that US forces boarded the ship after deploying "a number of terrorist marines" to it.
"We warn the Iranian military forces that they will immediately respond and retaliate against this armed piracy by the US military," he said.
